Infections caused by susceptible organisms in lower respiratory tract (eg, bronchitis, pneumonia), skin & soft tissue, upper respiratory tract (eg, sinusitis, pharyngitis/tonsillitis); acute otitis media. STD eg, uncomplicated genital infections due to chlamydia trachomatis or nonmultiresistant neisseria gonorrhoea & chancroid due to haemophilus ducreyi. Alone or in combination with rifabutin for prophylaxis against mycobacterium avium-intracellulare complex (MAC) infection & in combination with ethambutol for disseminated MAC (DMAC).

Active Ingredients

  • 250mg Azithromycin dihydrate

Indication/Uses

  • Adult & elderly other indications total dose: 1,500mg; 500mg daily for 3 days, or 500mg on day 1 then 250mg daily for days 2-5
  • STD caused by C trachomatis or susceptible N gonorrhoea & chancroid due to H ducreyi 1g single dose
  • Prophylaxis against MAC infections in patient with HIV infections 1, 200mg once weekly
  • In combination with ethambutol for DMAC infections in patient with advanced HIV infection 600mg once daily
  • Children >45kg total dose: 30mg/kg; 10mg/kg once daily for 3 days, or 10mg/kg on day 1 then 5mg/kg on days 2-5
  • Streptococci pharyngitis single dose of 10mg/kg or 20mg/kg for 3 days. Max 500mg daily
